Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry at St. John’s Medical College is a core academic, research, and diagnostic hub integral to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Established in 1963, the department has consistently contributed to teaching, research, and laboratory services for over five decades.​

Department Overview

The Biochemistry department provides comprehensive education for MBBS undergraduate students and postgraduate MD, MSc, and PhD candidates, focusing on molecular biology, clinical biochemistry, and advanced diagnostic techniques.​

It operates ISO-certified clinical laboratories offering round-the-clock diagnostic services, processing over 1,500 clinical samples daily and supporting patient care for hospitals and research studies.​

The department is well-equipped with modern research infrastructure, including laboratories for protein chemistry, cancer biology, diabetes, and molecular diagnostics.​

Students receive hands-on training in biochemical assays, enzyme technology, molecular diagnostics, and research methodology as part of their curriculum.​

The faculty is actively involved in nationally and internationally recognized research, mentoring students for scientific presentations, publications, and awards in the field of biochemistry.​

This vibrant department integrates teaching, research, and laboratory services to nurture the next generation of medical and clinical biochemistry professionals.
