Abstract:

A heart-healthy diet plays a major role in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, including Stroke. Studies have shown that consuming foods which are good for the heart can help lower the risk of stroke. An unhealthy diet can lead to increased blood pressure, poor diabetic control, increased blood cholesterol and obesity, all of which are ‘traditional’ risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Therefore, the same foods that help us maintain a healthy weight, lower our blood pressure, prevent diabetes and heart disease can also help prevent a stroke.
